Breeding recommendations for Australian Shepherds:
(No specific requirements in force)

Hip dysplasia examination result: A, B or C. (A dog with C hips is recommended to be mated only with a dog with A/B hips.) The examination must be carried out at 12+ months of age.

Elbow dysplasia examination result: 0 or 1. The examination must be carried out at 12+ months of age.

Eye examination: with the result “clear”, showing no signs of PRA, HC(HSF) or CEA. The eye examination result may not be older than two (2) years at the time of mating and must be carried out by an EKL-approved veterinarian. Australian Shepherds’ eyes are examined before and after the drops are applied.

Both parents from a show: at least the grade “H” (good) or an official training result!

On the day the examinations are carried out the dog must be at least 12 months old. The examination must be carried out and officially confirmed by an approved veterinarian of a country recognised by the FCI before mating.

The litter must comply with the EKL studbook regulation
The recommendations must be met before mating. When carrying out dysplasia examinations, follow
the EKL procedure for carrying out joint dysplasia examinations in dogs.
The breed club also recommends testing your dogs for the following conditions by genetic test:
HC( HSF4): recommended to use — clear/clear(+/+); clear/carrier(+/-) may be used with a +/+ partner).
CEA: recommended to use — clear/clear(+/+); clear/carrier(+/-) recommended to use with a +/+ partner).
PRA: recommended to use — clear/clear(+/+); clear/carrier(+/-) recommended to use with a +/+ partner).
MDR1: recommended to watch in breeding, so that a -/- result is mated to +/+ or -/+.
